My version of Windows 10 is 2025 build .900 and I verified that KB is installed. I have two brother printers connected. A very old MFC-7420 and an old MFC-J885DW. Brother provides no Windows 10 support for the MFC-7420 so this printer uses some generic driver provided by MS. The MFC-J885DW is supported by Brother.

The Windows protected print mode introduced in Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025 enhances print system security and helps prevent printer driver vulnerabilities from being exploited. However, please note that some Brother printer drivers, fax drivers and some applications are not available if the Windows protected print mode is turned on.*1 *1: Printing is still possible with some machines using standard Windows OS printer drivers, even when the Windows protected print mode is turned on. Click here to check if your machine is compatible with the Windows protected print mode. To turn the Windows protected print mode off: Click > [Settings] > [Bluetooth & devices] > [Printers & scanners]. Scroll down to "Printer preferences" and click [Turn off] under "Windows protected print mode". If you see the [Set up] button instead of the [Turn off] button, Windows protected print mode is off. When this pop-up window appears, click "Yes". Close the [Settings] window and try to install the printer driver again. Windows protected print mode prevents third-party printer drivers from interacting with the Windows operating system on your computer. If you turn the mode off, you can install (and reinstall) Brother printer drivers. However, other third-party printer drivers can also be installed and interact with the Windows operating system, so care should be taken when turning the mode off.Related ModelsDCP-165C, DCP-375CW, DCP-385C, DCP-395CN, DCP-585CW, DCP-J125, DCP-J140W, DCP-J152W, HL-JF1, HL-S7000DN, MFC-250C, MFC-255CW, MFC-290C, MFC-295CN, MFC-490CW, MFC-495CW, MFC-5490CN, MFC-5890CN, MFC-5895CW, MFC-6490CW, MFC-6890CDW, MFC-790CW, MFC-795CW, MFC-990CW, MFC-J1010DW, MFC-J1170DW, MFC-J1205W, MFC-J1215W, MFC-J1800DW, MFC-J245, MFC-J265W, MFC-J270W, MFC-J280W, MFC-J285DW, MFC-J410W, MFC-J415W, MFC-J425W, MFC-J430W, MFC-J4310DW, MFC-J4320DW, MFC-J4335DW, MFC-J4345DWXL, MFC-J435W, MFC-J4410DW, MFC-J4420DW, MFC-J450DW, MFC-J4510DW, MFC-J4535DW, MFC-J460DW, MFC-J4610DW, MFC-J4620DW, MFC-J470DW, MFC-J4710DW, MFC-J475DW, MFC-J480DW, MFC-J485DW, MFC-J491DW, MFC-J497DW, MFC-J5330DW, MFC-J5340DW, MFC-J5520DW, MFC-J5720DW, MFC-J5830DW(XL), MFC-J5845DW(XL), MFC-J5855DW, MFC-J5910DW, MFC-J5920DW, MFC-J5930DW, MFC-J5945DW, MFC-J5955DW, MFC-J615W, MFC-J625DW, MFC-J630W, MFC-J650DW, MFC-J6510DW, MFC-J6520DW, MFC-J6530DW, MFC-J6540DW, MFC-J6545DW(XL), MFC-J6555DW, MFC-J6710DW, MFC-J6720DW, MFC-J680DW, MFC-J690DW, MFC-J6910DW, MFC-J6920DW, MFC-J6925DW, MFC-J6930DW, MFC-J6935DW, MFC-J6940DW, MFC-J6945DW, MFC-J6955DW, MFC-J775DW(XL), MFC-J805DW(XL), MFC-J815DW XL, MFC-J825DW, MFC-J835DW, MFC-J870DW, MFC-J875DW, MFC-J880DW, MFC-J885DW, MFC-J895DW, MFC-J985DW(XL), MFC-T4500DWContent FeedbackTo help us improve our support, please provide your feedback below.
